Client

Contact is a seed-staged startup managing a B2B platform to discover, manage, book and pay creative talent instantly.

Challenges

With Contact already being a powerful tool used by hundreds of users daily, I had to create a new user experience that would be familiar to our existing users to avoid confusion and dropoff. As a startup, dev resources were limited, so scope was kept tight. I had to polish the user experience and create new components that aligned with the ongoing rebrand I was leading. The resulting design system had to work for both users and our internal team, including industry-specific concepts like job usage and fee negotiation, so the design language had to be consistent and intuitive for all parties involved.

Familiar, but different

Goal

The goal was to create a web dashboard that aligned all our tools in one place for agencies and bookers, alongside an iOS app for creatives. Easy to navigate and use, as well as easy to build with a well structured and thought out design system for handover. I set out to create an experience akin to e-commerce to keep familiarity a strong part of our experience.

Back to basics

Approach

The creation of a new interface began with user testing our bookers and creatives to identify major pain points and user desires. From there, I wireframed a unified dashboard flow that housed all our tools in one place, adding elements of joy wherever possible. For example, I wanted to ease friction in the flow to shortlist creatives, and made the shortlist button and accompanying basket a joy to use. Designs were rigorously tested via A/B and MVT before finalising the most efficient solution for our users. With prototypes and ready-to-use animations in hand, I could easily hand over the interface to the developers for implementation.

Conclusion

Feedback from both the wider team and our users posed the redesigned Contact a success. Users could easily find what they were looking for in a concise dashboard, creatives had an intuitive app, and the new design language ensured a consistent experience for all disciplines. Data also showed the new page structure on web helped improve our accessibility and SEO scores. Shipping more efficient designs reduced friction, and directly drove a 25% increase in booker conversion and a 50% increase in high-value jobs through the platform.
